Texas Colon and Rectal Specialists Physicians Join Texas Oncology
Physicians from the North Texas-based colon and rectal practice and Texas Oncology’s colorectal specialists to form specialty division.

DALLAS (March 1, 2021) – Texas Oncology and Texas Colon and Rectal Specialists (TCRS) jointly announced today that TCRS physicians have joined a new colorectal specialty division within Texas Oncology as of March 1, 2021. The announcement comes as TCRS physicians and Texas Oncology work to advance colorectal specialty and surgical care and research across the state.

TCRS physicians have served patients across North Texas for more than two decades. All 16 TCRS physicians are board certified in colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, the regulating board of the nation’s colorectal standards. Together with Texas Oncology’s existing colorectal surgeons, 27 total physicians will provide colorectal specialty services and surgical care in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex as well as Amarillo, San Antonio, and Houston.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of deaths among men and women combined in the U.S., with more than 11,280 Texans expected to be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2021.

“As our organization prepares for the future of healthcare and oncology care, we understand the importance of high-quality, evidence-based colon and rectal care. The addition of the TCRS physicians to Texas Oncology provides benefits to our collective patients, including greater accessibility to expert care right in their own communities,” said Steven Paulson, M.D., president and chairman of the board, Texas Oncology. “Texas Oncology is not a single institution, and the promising work we have ahead with the TCRS physicians and our colorectal specialty division is an example of that.”

The addition of the TCRS physicians to Texas Oncology’s existing colorectal physicians provides patients greater accessibility to high-quality colorectal care and more opportunities to participate in value-based care opportunities, outcomes benchmarking and development of best practices, as well as groundbreaking clinical trials and research.

TCRS physicians are active in research and continually pursue advanced training to provide advanced treatment of complex colon and rectal diseases and disorders. As part of Texas Oncology, TCRS physicians and patients of both practices will have more opportunities to participate in groundbreaking clinical trials and research.

“This will enhance the colorectal cancer care we give our patients. The TCRS physicians will continue to provide comprehensive colorectal care as we join other colorectal specialists at Texas Oncology. Our physicians will bring their experience, emphasis on quality, proven outcomes, and clinical expertise to the newly formed colorectal specialty division within Texas Oncology,” said Randall Crim, M.D., managing partner of TCRS. “We are proud to join Texas Oncology’s colorectal division, a physician-led group that has helped develop more than 100 FDA-approved cancer therapies.”

TCRS physicians will continue serving patients at their current locations.

Texas Oncology continues to adapt to the dynamic environment of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and remains committed to implementing operational changes to support and prioritize safely caring for patients who need cancer treatment and other healthcare needs. These adjustments include regular assessment of appointment protocols, screenings processes, telemedicine use, and more to ensure Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines are followed in every aspect of its operational response to COVID-19.

Texas Oncology is an independent private practice with more than 500 physicians and 210 locations across the state. Meeting the oncology needs of Texans for more than 35 years, the practice includes Texas Center for Proton Therapy, Texas Breast Specialists, Texas Oncology Surgical Specialists, Texas Urology Specialists, and Texas Center for Interventional Surgery.
