Dr. Chan is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He is highly skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including robotic assisted colorectal surgery. Dr. Chan’s practice provides the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of colorectal care, from surgical to in-office procedures. He is very focused on improving his patients surgical outcomes through the use of ERAS or “Enhanced Recovery After Surgery” protocols.
An extensively trained Colon and Rectal Surgeon, Dr. Chan takes a strong focus on improving all of his patients surgical outcomes. His goal is a shortened, less painful recovery time for all his surgical patients. Dr. Chan utilizes not only minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, but also the use of robotic assisted surgery. These surgical techniques combined with the process know as ERAS or “Enhanced Recovery After Surgery” allows Dr. Chan to produce better outcomes for his patients. As an advocated of this process Dr. Chan says, ” I am offering my patients suffering with conditions such as colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and other concerns, a shorter recovery time, less pain, lower risk of infection and over-all better outcomes after surgery.” As a highly trained surgeon, Dr. Chan is able to perform the robotic assisted surgery which allows for more precision during surgical procedures.
Dr. Chan’s practice encompasses all aspects of colorectal care from screening, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies to the treatment of other conditions such as fissures, fistulas, fecal incontinence and hemorrhoids. He is passionate about making his patients feel confident about the treatment and management of their condition throughout their entire health journey.
Dr. Chan earned a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of California Berkeley. After which, he attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, completing his medical degree. Continuing on with his education, Dr. Chan completed an internship in Categorical General Surgery following with his residency in General Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Chan was then given the opportunity to complete his fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Chan has remained in the North Texas region to bring his expertise in colorectal care to patients across the metroplex. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his children, cycling and swimming. In addition to English, he speaks conversational Mandarin and Chinese.
