Dr. Rodriguez-Ruesga is certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He is a sought after colon and rectal surgeon specializing in rectal cancer and a broad range of other colon and rectal diseases and disorders.
Dr. Rodriguez-Ruesga has a passion for patient care and excellence. He believes love, empathy, dedication, and compassion are integral components for successful patient care. He is always an innovator, an advocate for new technology and advancement, leads efforts to establish new standards of care in cancer with his research on free circulating malignant DNA know as liquid biopsies. Actively involved in improving quality among his peers. For over 20 years he has developed one of the largest rectal cancer practices in the metroplex and he is always willing to share his expertise with his trainees and peers.
His practice encompasses all facets of colon and rectal care including the expert surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer, fissures, fistulas, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Rodriguez-Ruesga earned his medical degree from Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Garza, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in 1989. After medical school, Dr. Rodriguez-Ruesga did his internship in General Surgery at Hospital San Jose de Monterrey Escuela de Medicina Ignacio Santos ITESM. He then had the opportunity to start his residency in Surgery at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester Minnesota and finished his training in General Surgery and served as Chief Resident at Butterworth Hospital – Michigan State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1999, he completed his fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center – Baylor Scott & White Health, where he still provides compassionate colorectal care today.
During his spare time, Dr. Rodriguez-Ruesga enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, performing mission work in Mexico, traveling around the world, cycling, and reading the Bible.
