Dr. Whitney is board certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in colon and rectal surgery. His practice provides the diagnosis and treatment of all colon and rectal diseases and disorders. Dr. Whitney is highly skilled in minimally invasive surgical procedures, including robotic assisted colorectal surgery. He has a special interest in the surgical management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Dr. Stewart Whitney earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas followed by his general surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He completed his colon and rectal surgery fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida. His time at Mount Sinai, where Dr. Crohn first described Crohn’s disease, and Cleveland Clinic Florida provided extensive experience with the surgical management of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which drew him to the field of colon and rectal surgery.
His practice encompasses all facets of colon and rectal surgery including colon and rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other benign diseases of the colon, rectum and anus – such as diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, and anal fistula and fissure. He also performs screening, diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopies with the removal of polyps.
A strong believer in minimally invasive surgery, specifically robotics and laparoscopy, Dr. Whitney is committed to providing his patients with the most comprehensive care. His patient care philosophy is to counsel and treat all patients as if they were his family.
Through his experiences with his own family receiving medical care, Dr. Whitney understands the importance of having a physician who listens carefully and explains thoroughly. “I want my patients to feel comfortable and confident in their treatment and management,” said Dr. Whitney. “By providing detailed and honest care plans, my goal is to help every patient feel educated and empowered.”
Dr. Whitney is a seventh-generation Texan, born and raised in Tyler, Texas. He is excited to provide colorectal care to patients in North Texas. In his spare time, Dr. Whitney enjoys spending time with his wife and family, watching football, grilling, and exercising.
